Ethics of war

Reading this NYTimes article, one can sense that there's no moral or ethics in war.
Armies are designed to kill, invade, destroy and ocupy enemies and its territories. Politicians define the enemies and therefore the battlefields - that's the time to apply moral and ethics.
One can just admire more, people who resist this killer machines, like the israeli citizens who refuse to be drafted. They are real heroes.
